Silk City – the dance duo made up of Diplo and Mark Ronson – have teamed up with Ellie Goulding for their intoxicating new single ‘New Love’.
A future house classic, ‘New Love’ is an exhilarating dance anthem which encourages you to unapologetically be yourself at all times. “Didn’t always like myself / Didn’t always get it right”, Ellie sings, before letting go and realising that she’s filled with new love for herself.
Bursting with feel good vibes, ‘New Love’ is a gargantuan offering which will make you want to let loose (even if that’s just within the comfort of your home for the time being). Destined to be a dancefloor smash when time allows, Silk City and Ellie have delivered an instant toe-tapper which will wash away those January blues.
This euphoric bop comes armed with a vibrant visual which sees Ellie take on numerous roles. Directed by Ana Sting, Ellie can be seen playing a variety of characters including a bouncer and a club performer, whilst Diplo and Mark make blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameos via photo IDs and milk cartons.
Speaking about the collaboration, Diplo said: “I’m always stoked to get back in the studio with Mark. We’ve been constantly trading ideas since the start of Silk City and finally found the time to bring some of them to life. We came out with this classic house record and Ellie was kind enough to lend her voice to it.”
“I love the music that comes out when Wes and I get together, Mark added. “It has a joy to it that’s different from everything else I work on. I’ve known Ellie for over ten years, and it’s great to finally get to make something together. Her voice has such a pure tone that cuts through everything.”
“I’ve known Mark and Wes for years and it seemed only right to make a tune together, at a time where we all need to dance and be free, even if just in our kitchens, says Ellie of her involvement. “The song is about losing yourself on your own, not needing to be seen, knowing that the one that got away could be just as happy as this too. The main concept is dancing on your own not needing to be seen.”
‘New Love’ is Silk City’s first single since 2018 and follows in the footsteps of the global sensation ‘Electricity’ featuring Dua Lipa. The track, which is certified platinum in the UK and US, earned the pair a Grammy for Best Dance Recording and topped a number of charts worldwide.
‘New Love’ is also Ellie’s latest single and follows on from her 2020 album Brightest Blue, which included her Diplo and Swae Lee collaboration ‘Close To Me’.
